[Travel] So I must leave I'll have to go to Las Vegas or Monaco

Heute folgt nun der dritte Teil meines kleinen Reiseberichts von meinem Sommer in Kalifornien. Während meiner dritten Woche dort waren wir in den Universal Studios, in einem veganen Restaurant und in Las Vegas. Falls ihr die ersten beiden Teile verpasst habt, könnt ihr sie hier und hier nochmal nachlesen. 

This is the the third part of my report about my summer in California. During my third week there we visited the Universal Studios, went to a vegan restaurant and spent a long weekend in Las Vegas. In case you missed the first two weeks, just click here and here to check them out. 

Die Universal Studios habe ich das erste Mal mit 6 Jahren besucht und wollte seitdem die ganze Zeit unbedingt nochmal hin. Naja hauptsächlich hatte das damit zu tun, dass ich etwas traumatisiert von meinem Besuch damals war :D Denn es gab eine Fahrgeschäft, bei dem ich mich damals so erschreckt hab, dass ich Jahre später immer noch Albträume davon hatte. Ich bin dann dieses mal auch wieder damit gefahren, um mein Trauma zu überwinden, und an der Stelle, wo ich mich das letzte Mal so erschreckt hatte, ist einfach nichts passiert... ich war wohl nicht das einzige Kind, dass danach Albträume hatte :D 

So I've been wanting to visit the Universal Studios again ever since I was there for the first time at the age of 6. Actually mostly because I was completely traumatized the first time there :D This one ride scared the s*** out of me and I had nightmares about it for so many years following that visit. So I actually went on that ride again - and nothing happened :D The part that freaked me out so much back then doesn't happen anymore... I guess I wasn't the only child that got traumatized from that ride :D 

Wir waren in der Woche auch in zwei erwähnenswerten Restaurants. Nr 1: The Cheesecake Factory. Die haben wirklich extrem gutes "normales" Essen, aber die Käsekuchen... sagen wir mal das hat nichts mit deutschen Käsekuchen zu tun :D Zu groß, zu süß, zu amerikanisch :D Ich bins ja eigentlich noch echt gewöhnt, da ich dort aufgewachsen bin, aber selbst ich hab nur ein halbes Stück essen können. Nr. 2: Native Foods Cafe. Ich habe dort zum ersten Mal komplett vegan gegessen und muss sagen, dass es gar nicht so schlecht war... nur nicht so ganz mein Ding. Ich mein mein Essen war wirklich in Ordnung und ich bin auch keine, die viel Fleisch braucht, aber vegan ist mir dann auf Dauer doch ein bisschen zu krass...

We also visited two note-worthy restaurants during that week. Nr. 1: The Cheesecake Factory. Really really good "normal" food, but oh well the cheesecakes are just very... American :D I mean I'm sorta used to it cause I grew up there, but they were still too big, too sweet, too everything :D Nr. 2: Native Foods Cafe. Well it was the first time that I went to vegan restaurant and it wasn't even that bad... it's just not really my thing. I mean my food was okay and I'm not a type of person who needs a lot of meat, but vegan is just a little too much for me... 

Jetzt kommt das worauf ihr wahrscheinlich alle gewartet habt :D Vegas! Wir hatten uns eigentlich zuerst ein Zimmer im Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas Strip reserviert, was sich dann aber leider als ziemlichen Fehler rausgestellt hat. Nicht falsch verstehen, das Hotel war absolut wunderschön genau wie das Zimmer, aber es ist einfach verdammt weit weg von den "wichtigen" Hotels. In jeder anderen Stadt würde es super zentral liegen, aber in Vegas will man halt doch mittendrin (statt nur dabei) sein - zumindest wenn man jung und ohne Kinder unterwegs ist. Deswegen sind wir dann ins Flamingo Hotel umgezogen und das war defintiv die richtige Entscheidung 

Now comes the part though that you guys probably wanna know about :D Vegas! So we actually made a reservation at the Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas Strip, but when we arrived we realized that that was the biggest mistake we could have possibly made. I mean the hotel was beautiful, but it's just way too far away from the actual important hotels and it doesn't have a casino... so if you wanna bring your kids to Vegas and want a nice and quiet evening then this hotel is perfect for you, but if you're young and wanna actually experience Las Vegas: get a room in one of the hotels that are actually important!! So we packed our bags again and spontaneously got a new room at the Flamingo Hotel. Best decision ever!

Wenn man schon mal in Las Vegas ist, will man sich natürlich nichts entgehen lassen - auch nicht das weltberühmte Serendipity Restaurant. Leider wurden wir von den Burgern, wofür Serendipity ja u.a. eigentlich berühmt ist, etwas enttäuscht, denn da haben wir alle in der Zeit woanders sehr viel bessere gegessen, aber schlecht wars defintiv nicht ;) Die Mädels waren dann Abends im Aria (nicht Montgomery :D sorry :D ) feiern. Leider konnte ich nicht mit, weil ich damals noch nicht 21 war... Naja letztlich wars gut, dass ich nicht mit war, denn sagen wir mal: Hangover lässt grüßen ;)

Since we were in Las Vegas anyway, we didn't wanna miss the Serendipity Restaurant. Sadly, the burgers were not as great as we had expected since thats partly what they're famous for, but it was still not too bad ;) The girls went to a club at the Aria (not Montgomery :D sorry :D) hotel that night, but sadly I couldn't join them cause I wasn't 21 at the time - well that's what you get for going to Vegas when your still underage :D However, the next morning I was glad that I hadn't been partying - cause let's just say: hangover ;)

Dafür war ich dann an dem Abend in Rock of Ages, was schon länger auf meiner Wunschliste stand und muss sagen: das mit weitem Abstand lustigste Musical, das ich bisher gesehen hab ;) Wirklich empfehlenswert!! Danach hab ichs dann noch geschafft mich in meinem Lieblingshotel dem Venetian zu verlaufen... ja fragt nicht wie man das schafft :D Normalerweise hab ich echt einen guten Orientierungssinn, aber dieses Hotel hat mich sehr verwirrt :D

Also, had I gone partying, I wouldn't have been able to fulfil my dream of seeing the musical Rock of Ages live on stage - and I have to say I would have missed out on so much! That musical is by far the funniest one I've seen and just simply a blast ;) After the show was over, I managed to get lost in my favorite hotel ever - The Venetian. Don't ask :D I'm usually really good at directions but that hotel - oh my :D I don't know what happened :D


LA (and Las Vegas) Tipps: 

#11 Universal Studios
Versucht nicht am Wochenende und nicht in den amerikanischen Schulferien hinzugehen... ihr werdet ansonsten euren kompletten Tag damit verbringen nur anzustehen.

Try to avoid going there on the weekends and during American school vacations... unless you wana spend your entire time there standing in line.

#12 The Cheesecake Factory
Geht zum Abend essen hin anstatt nur mit dem Gedanken einen Käsekuchen zu essen. Denn das "normale" Essen ist wahnsinnig gut, die Käsekuchen hingegen eher Geschmackssache...

Go there to have dinner rather than just to have a cheesecake. Cause the "normal" food is delicious, the cheesecakes more a matter of taste. 

#13 Hotels in Las Vegas
Wenn ihr zum feiern oder spielen nach Las Vegas kommt, dann nehmt euch unbedingt ein zentrales Hotel mitten am Strip. Denn in Vegas - im Gegensatz zum restlichen Amerika - kann man echt alles zu Fuß erreichen, wenn man aber ein Hotel an einem Ende vom Strip hat, dann kann sich der Weg bis zum anderen Ende doch ganz schön ziehen - besonders wenn man besoffen und barfuß nachts den Weg ins Hotel sucht :D

Make sure to get a hotel that is right in the middle of the Strip if you wanna party or gamble. The good thing about Vegas - as opposed to the rest of the US - is namely that everthing is in walking distance. However, if your hotel is at either end of the strip walking all the way from the other end back to your hotel can take a while - especially if you're barefoot and drunk :D

#14 Rock of Ages 
Egal ob ihr nun in Vegas seid oder sonst irgendwo, wo das Musical aufgeführt wird - schaut es euch an! Es macht einfach unglaublich viel Spaß und wenn ihr genauso 80er Rock fanatisch seid wie ich, dann ist es definitiv ein Muss ;)

Whether you get the chance to see this in Vegas or in any other part of the world - go do it! It's so much fun - especially if you love 80s rock as much as I do ;)

#15 Partying in Las Vegas
Den besten Tipp, den ich euch dazu geben kann, ist: Mädels, lasst eure Jungs daheim :D Ihr kommt ohne männliche Begleiter sehr viel leichter und sehr viel günstiger überall rein. Allgemein müssen Jungs meistens ca. 3x so viel zahlen wie wir Mädels...

The best advice that I can give you is: ladies, leave your men at home :D It's sooo much easier and cheaper to get into clubs if you only wanna get in with your girlfriends. In general men have to pay about three times as much as girls to get into a club...

[Travel] You could travel the world but nothing comes close to...

... the golden coast!! Ja, Katy Perry hat eindeutig Recht! Den vergangenen Sommer habe ich damit verbracht ein Auslandssemester an der University of California Los Angeles zu absolvieren und habe dadurch wundervolle sieben Wochen an dieser "Golden Coast" gelebt und mich dabei unsterblich in sie verliebt. Dieser Post wird der erste Teil meines kleinen Rückblicks darstellen und falls ihr gerne mehr über meinen Sommer lesen wollt, dann lasst mich das unten in den Kommentaren wissen :)

...the golden coast!! Yes, Katy Perry is right! I spent this past summer studying at the University of California Los Angeles and therefore got to spend the most amazing seven weeks of my life at this famous golden coast and I fell head over heels in love with it! This is going to be the first part of my little flashback travel guide and if you enjoy reading it, then please let me know in the comments below :)

Am LAX zu landen ist schon ein Erlebnis. Der Flughafen an sich ist nicht so besonders schön oder interessant, aber wenn man aus dem Flughafen rausfährt wird man von diesen großen LA Buchstaben begrüßt und spätestens dann weiß man, dass man es geschafft hat.

Flying into LA itself is already worth it. The airport is maybe not the most beautiful or interesting one, but when you drive out of the airport and you are greeted by these huge LA letters, you just know that you've made it.

Santa Monica

Nachdem mein Vater mich vom Flughafen abgeholt hatte (er war sowieso auf Geschäftsreise dort), sind wir direkt nach Santa Monica gefahren, da es mir dort beim letzten Mal so gut gefallen hat. Das erklärt auch wieso ich so "gammelig" angezogen bin, im Flugzeug soll es schließlich bequem sein (ja ich weiß, dass "Los York" shirt war einfach zu perfekt, da ich die erste Woche in York, PA verbracht habe, wo ich aufgewachsen bin und danach die restliche Zeit in LA :D ) Das Restaurant, das man auf dem zweiten Bild links sieht, war das erste Restaurant in dem ich dieses Mal in LA zu Abend gegessen habe. Jedoch zahlt man hier wirklich für den wahnsinnig tollen Ausblick und die Lage mit und dadurch war es nicht gerade das günstigste Essen - aber eins der besten. Santa Monica an sich ist - wie ich bereits erwähnt hab - eins meiner Lieblingsteile von Los Angeles. Der Pier ist wahnsinnig schön, wenn auch leider immer etwas überfüllt, und wenn ihr Glück habt und während den Sommer Monaten vor Ort seid, habt ihr vielleicht das Glück eins der kostenlosen "twilight concerts" mitzuerleben. Zum Shoppen ist man in Santa Monica auch genau richtig, denn vorallem die ganzen "typischen" Amerika Läden (Victoria's Secret, Forever 21, etc), die man definitiv zumindest mal besuchen sollte, sind alle in der 3rd Street vertreten. Jedoch bin ich letztlich dann lieber in kleineren Boutiquen z.B. auf der Melrose Avenue shoppen gegangen, aber dazu später mehr.

After my dad picked me up from the airport (he was there on a business trip anyways), we drove directly to Santa Monica, which had been one of my favorite places in LA for a while. That also explains my very casual clothes (yeah I know the "Los York" shirt is just perfect, cause I spent the first week in York, PA, where I grew up and then the following 6 1/2 weeks in Los Angeles :D ). The restaurant that you see on the second picture on the left side, was the first place I had dinner at during my stay. However, you do have to pay for the amazing view, so the restaurant was one of the most expensive ones I had dinner at - but also one of the best. Santa Monice itself is - as I have mentioned - one of my favorite places in LA. The pier is great and if you're lucky enough to be there during the summer months, you might have the chance to catch one of the free "twilight concerts" on the pier. If you wanna go shopping at all the typical "American" stores (Forever 21, Victoria's Secret, etc) - and you should at least check them out during your stay in the states - Santa Monica is also a great place since the 3rd street offers all of these and more. However, I did prefer shopping at smaller boutiques on e.g. Melrose Avenue but I will write about those stores again later on.

UCLA campus

Wie bereits erwähnt war ich in LA, weil ich die Möglichkeit bekommen habe an einer der Summer Sessions an der UCLA teilzunehmen (falls ihr mehr dazu wissen wollt, sagt bitte kurz Bescheid). Der Campus an sich ist aber auch einen Besuch wert auch wenn ihr dort nicht studiert. Man braucht circa 45 Minuten um von einem Ende zum Anderen zu laufen und er ist nicht nur wahnsinnig groß, sondern auch unglaublich schön. Ich kenn keinen einzigen deutschen Campus, der auch nur im geringsten mit diesem mithalten kann. Ein weiteres Highlight direkt auf dem Campus ist, dass Real Madrid jedes Jahr ihr Sommertrainingslager auf dem Campus der UCLA abhalten und man dadurch ganz leicht an die Spieler rankommt und ihnen beim trainieren zuschauen kann. Das Sommertrainingslager von Real Madrid findet meistens Ende Juli oder Anfang August statt und da ich Anfang August in LA angekommen bin, hatte ich das Glück die Jungs alle mal zu sehen (naja nicht alle Ronaldo und Khedira sind nicht aufgetaucht). Für einen rießen Fußball Fan wie mich, war das ein absolutes Highlight.

As I have already mentioned I was in LA because I got the chance to take part in one of the summer sessions at the UCLA (if you wanna know more about this, please let me know). The campus itself is a main attraction in Los Angeles. It takes you about 45 minutes to walk from one end to the other and it is not only incredibly big but also incredibly beautiful. There is not a single German college campus that can keep up with this one - not even close. Another highlight on the campus itself is that the soccer team of Real Madrid has a training camp on the soccer field of the UCLA each summer. It usually takes place at the end of July/beginning of August. Since I arrived in LA at the beginning of August, I got the chance to see all the stars (well not all of them - Ronaldo and Khedira didn't show up) there and since I'm a huge soccer fan, it was one of my highlights.

LACMA

Während meiner ersten Woche bin ich mit den anderen deutschen Mädels ins Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), da ich aber überhaupt kein Kunstfan bin, war das Museum leider nicht wirklich meins. Trotzdem war es eine Erfahrung wert, besonders weil ich die weltberühmten Laternen vorm LACMA sehen konnte und da wir UCLA Studenten waren sind wir alle kostenlos reingekommen. Ein weiterer "Ort", den ich schon in meiner ersten Woche besucht habe, war In-N-Out Burger - mein lieblings Fast Food Restaurant in California.

During my first week I also went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) with the other German girls, but since I'm not really a fan of paintings and sculptures, art museums are just never really my thing. It was free though, since we were UCLA students and I therefore didn't have to spend any money on it and got to see the famous lanterns that are in front of the museum. Another place that I already visited during my first week was In-N-Out Burger, which is my favorite fast food restaurant in California.

The Grove

Jetzt kommt eine meiner liebsten Erinnerungen überhaupt, denn ich hab Chris Colfer bei The Grove kennengelernt, wo eine Autogrammstunde mit ihm stattgefunden hat. Falls ihr nicht wisst wer Chris Colfer ist: googlet mal Glee - meine liebste Fernsehserie aller Zeiten ;) Eigentlich war ich am Tag bevor Chris da war bereits mit den Mädels bei The Grove und hab da Bella Thorne (Disney Channel Star) und Jade von der britischen Girlgroup Little Mix ("Wings") bereits auf der Toilette getroffen. Dann hab ich aber das Plakat gesehen, wo draufstand, dass Chris Colfer am nächsten Tag da sein würde, also bin ich direkt ein zweites Mal hin. The Grove ist aber sowieso ein Ort in LA den man unbedingt besuchen muss, denn man kann dort wunderbar shoppen gehen oder über den Farmer's Market schlendern und wenn man Promis sehen möchte, ist man hier auch nie falsch, denn es finden recht häufig Autogrammstunden oder kleine kostenlose Konzerte hier statt. Bella Thorne und Jade von Little Mix hab ich im Italiener am Eck gegenüber vom Kino getroffen, denn es hat sich rausgestellt, dass dort sehr häufig "VIP Check-In" ist, also dass die Promis sich dort treffen bevor die Show oder das Konzert anfängt. Wenn ihr also bereit seid etwas Geld auszugeben um Promis zu sehen, dann geht dort essen und verschwindet öfter mal auf die Toilette ;)

This is actually one of my favorite memories of the past summer: I got to meet Chris Colfer at the Grove where he was signing his new novel :) In case you're wondering who Chris Colfer is: just google Glee - my favorite TV show of all times. I actually went to the Grove with the other girls the day before Chris was there and already ran into Bella Thorne (disney channel star) and Jade from the British girl group Little Mix in the bathroom, but then I saw the sign saying that Chris Colfer was gonna be there the next day so I decided to go again. The Grove is a place that you definitily have to visit anyways, cause it's great for shopping or just walking around the Farmer's Market and if you wanna see celebrities in LA this is always a place where a lot of events take place. We actually ran into Bella Thorne and Jade in the bathroom at the Italian restaurant right across from the movie theatre and it turns out that the celebrity check-in is usually in that restaurant when special events are taking place. So if you're willing to spend a little bit of money, then have lunch there and use the bathroom quite often cause you never know who you'll meet there ;)

#2 Twilight Concerts

#3 Real Madrid 
Das Trainingslager von Real Madrid findet einmal im Jahr (Ende Juli/Anfang August) auf dem Campus der UCLA statt. Das Training endet meistens gegen 16 Uhr und dann hat man die Möglichkeit Autogramme von den Stars zu kriegen und teilweise auch Fotos mit denen zu machen. Zu übersehen ist das ganze eigentlich nicht, denn die richtigen Hardcore-Fans sitzen dann meist den ganzen Tag da.

The Real Madrid training camp takes place on the UCLA campus once a year (end of Juli/beg of August). The training session usually ends at about 4pm and after that you have the chance to get autographs and photos with the stars. It is impossible to overlook this event since the real fans usually sit there all day.


#4 UCLA
Auch wenn man kein Student ist, muss man sich den Campus unbedingt anschauen. Viele Teile vom Campus kennt man aus diversen Fernsehshows und Filmen u.a. 90210 und einen ähnlichen Campus findet man in Deutschland defintiv nicht.

Even if you're not a college student, you should defintily visit the campus. You might recognize some parts of the campus from TV shows or movie e.g. 90210.

Zusätzlich finden fast täglich irgendwelche Extra Aktionen statt, häufig auch mit prominenten Gästen vorallem im Barnes & Nobles, wo fast jede Woche ein Promi da ist um sein neustes Buch zu signieren.
