[Travel] So I must leave I'll have to go to Las Vegas or Monaco

Heute folgt nun der dritte Teil meines kleinen Reiseberichts von meinem Sommer in Kalifornien. Während meiner dritten Woche dort waren wir in den Universal Studios, in einem veganen Restaurant und in Las Vegas. Falls ihr die ersten beiden Teile verpasst habt, könnt ihr sie hier und hier nochmal nachlesen. 

This is the the third part of my report about my summer in California. During my third week there we visited the Universal Studios, went to a vegan restaurant and spent a long weekend in Las Vegas. In case you missed the first two weeks, just click here and here to check them out. 

Die Universal Studios habe ich das erste Mal mit 6 Jahren besucht und wollte seitdem die ganze Zeit unbedingt nochmal hin. Naja hauptsächlich hatte das damit zu tun, dass ich etwas traumatisiert von meinem Besuch damals war :D Denn es gab eine Fahrgeschäft, bei dem ich mich damals so erschreckt hab, dass ich Jahre später immer noch Albträume davon hatte. Ich bin dann dieses mal auch wieder damit gefahren, um mein Trauma zu überwinden, und an der Stelle, wo ich mich das letzte Mal so erschreckt hatte, ist einfach nichts passiert... ich war wohl nicht das einzige Kind, dass danach Albträume hatte :D 

So I've been wanting to visit the Universal Studios again ever since I was there for the first time at the age of 6. Actually mostly because I was completely traumatized the first time there :D This one ride scared the s*** out of me and I had nightmares about it for so many years following that visit. So I actually went on that ride again - and nothing happened :D The part that freaked me out so much back then doesn't happen anymore... I guess I wasn't the only child that got traumatized from that ride :D 

Wir waren in der Woche auch in zwei erwähnenswerten Restaurants. Nr 1: The Cheesecake Factory. Die haben wirklich extrem gutes "normales" Essen, aber die Käsekuchen... sagen wir mal das hat nichts mit deutschen Käsekuchen zu tun :D Zu groß, zu süß, zu amerikanisch :D Ich bins ja eigentlich noch echt gewöhnt, da ich dort aufgewachsen bin, aber selbst ich hab nur ein halbes Stück essen können. Nr. 2: Native Foods Cafe. Ich habe dort zum ersten Mal komplett vegan gegessen und muss sagen, dass es gar nicht so schlecht war... nur nicht so ganz mein Ding. Ich mein mein Essen war wirklich in Ordnung und ich bin auch keine, die viel Fleisch braucht, aber vegan ist mir dann auf Dauer doch ein bisschen zu krass...

We also visited two note-worthy restaurants during that week. Nr. 1: The Cheesecake Factory. Really really good "normal" food, but oh well the cheesecakes are just very... American :D I mean I'm sorta used to it cause I grew up there, but they were still too big, too sweet, too everything :D Nr. 2: Native Foods Cafe. Well it was the first time that I went to vegan restaurant and it wasn't even that bad... it's just not really my thing. I mean my food was okay and I'm not a type of person who needs a lot of meat, but vegan is just a little too much for me... 

Jetzt kommt das worauf ihr wahrscheinlich alle gewartet habt :D Vegas! Wir hatten uns eigentlich zuerst ein Zimmer im Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas Strip reserviert, was sich dann aber leider als ziemlichen Fehler rausgestellt hat. Nicht falsch verstehen, das Hotel war absolut wunderschön genau wie das Zimmer, aber es ist einfach verdammt weit weg von den "wichtigen" Hotels. In jeder anderen Stadt würde es super zentral liegen, aber in Vegas will man halt doch mittendrin (statt nur dabei) sein - zumindest wenn man jung und ohne Kinder unterwegs ist. Deswegen sind wir dann ins Flamingo Hotel umgezogen und das war defintiv die richtige Entscheidung 

Now comes the part though that you guys probably wanna know about :D Vegas! So we actually made a reservation at the Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas Strip, but when we arrived we realized that that was the biggest mistake we could have possibly made. I mean the hotel was beautiful, but it's just way too far away from the actual important hotels and it doesn't have a casino... so if you wanna bring your kids to Vegas and want a nice and quiet evening then this hotel is perfect for you, but if you're young and wanna actually experience Las Vegas: get a room in one of the hotels that are actually important!! So we packed our bags again and spontaneously got a new room at the Flamingo Hotel. Best decision ever!

Wenn man schon mal in Las Vegas ist, will man sich natürlich nichts entgehen lassen - auch nicht das weltberühmte Serendipity Restaurant. Leider wurden wir von den Burgern, wofür Serendipity ja u.a. eigentlich berühmt ist, etwas enttäuscht, denn da haben wir alle in der Zeit woanders sehr viel bessere gegessen, aber schlecht wars defintiv nicht ;) Die Mädels waren dann Abends im Aria (nicht Montgomery :D sorry :D ) feiern. Leider konnte ich nicht mit, weil ich damals noch nicht 21 war... Naja letztlich wars gut, dass ich nicht mit war, denn sagen wir mal: Hangover lässt grüßen ;)

Since we were in Las Vegas anyway, we didn't wanna miss the Serendipity Restaurant. Sadly, the burgers were not as great as we had expected since thats partly what they're famous for, but it was still not too bad ;) The girls went to a club at the Aria (not Montgomery :D sorry :D) hotel that night, but sadly I couldn't join them cause I wasn't 21 at the time - well that's what you get for going to Vegas when your still underage :D However, the next morning I was glad that I hadn't been partying - cause let's just say: hangover ;)

Dafür war ich dann an dem Abend in Rock of Ages, was schon länger auf meiner Wunschliste stand und muss sagen: das mit weitem Abstand lustigste Musical, das ich bisher gesehen hab ;) Wirklich empfehlenswert!! Danach hab ichs dann noch geschafft mich in meinem Lieblingshotel dem Venetian zu verlaufen... ja fragt nicht wie man das schafft :D Normalerweise hab ich echt einen guten Orientierungssinn, aber dieses Hotel hat mich sehr verwirrt :D

Also, had I gone partying, I wouldn't have been able to fulfil my dream of seeing the musical Rock of Ages live on stage - and I have to say I would have missed out on so much! That musical is by far the funniest one I've seen and just simply a blast ;) After the show was over, I managed to get lost in my favorite hotel ever - The Venetian. Don't ask :D I'm usually really good at directions but that hotel - oh my :D I don't know what happened :D


LA (and Las Vegas) Tipps: 

#11 Universal Studios
Versucht nicht am Wochenende und nicht in den amerikanischen Schulferien hinzugehen... ihr werdet ansonsten euren kompletten Tag damit verbringen nur anzustehen.

Try to avoid going there on the weekends and during American school vacations... unless you wana spend your entire time there standing in line.

#12 The Cheesecake Factory
Geht zum Abend essen hin anstatt nur mit dem Gedanken einen Käsekuchen zu essen. Denn das "normale" Essen ist wahnsinnig gut, die Käsekuchen hingegen eher Geschmackssache...

Go there to have dinner rather than just to have a cheesecake. Cause the "normal" food is delicious, the cheesecakes more a matter of taste. 

#13 Hotels in Las Vegas
Wenn ihr zum feiern oder spielen nach Las Vegas kommt, dann nehmt euch unbedingt ein zentrales Hotel mitten am Strip. Denn in Vegas - im Gegensatz zum restlichen Amerika - kann man echt alles zu Fuß erreichen, wenn man aber ein Hotel an einem Ende vom Strip hat, dann kann sich der Weg bis zum anderen Ende doch ganz schön ziehen - besonders wenn man besoffen und barfuß nachts den Weg ins Hotel sucht :D

Make sure to get a hotel that is right in the middle of the Strip if you wanna party or gamble. The good thing about Vegas - as opposed to the rest of the US - is namely that everthing is in walking distance. However, if your hotel is at either end of the strip walking all the way from the other end back to your hotel can take a while - especially if you're barefoot and drunk :D

#14 Rock of Ages 
Egal ob ihr nun in Vegas seid oder sonst irgendwo, wo das Musical aufgeführt wird - schaut es euch an! Es macht einfach unglaublich viel Spaß und wenn ihr genauso 80er Rock fanatisch seid wie ich, dann ist es definitiv ein Muss ;)

Whether you get the chance to see this in Vegas or in any other part of the world - go do it! It's so much fun - especially if you love 80s rock as much as I do ;)

#15 Partying in Las Vegas
Den besten Tipp, den ich euch dazu geben kann, ist: Mädels, lasst eure Jungs daheim :D Ihr kommt ohne männliche Begleiter sehr viel leichter und sehr viel günstiger überall rein. Allgemein müssen Jungs meistens ca. 3x so viel zahlen wie wir Mädels...

The best advice that I can give you is: ladies, leave your men at home :D It's sooo much easier and cheaper to get into clubs if you only wanna get in with your girlfriends. In general men have to pay about three times as much as girls to get into a club...

[Travel] Nothing matters but knowing nothing matters

Day 1 in London

So I'm warning you now: This post is gonna be really long (and this is just day 1!), but I always really like travel posts on other blogs and I like sharing my experiences and telling you guys what I learned and what tipps I can give you after the trip.
So after having safely arrived in London (we flew with Lufthansa), we brought our lugguage to our apartments and then headed on to the city where we had an early lunch at McDonalds (it was about 11 am :D). Afterwards, we decided to take the Original Tour (hop on, hop off) through London in order to get a first impression of the city. I had actually already done the hop-on-hop-off tour twice before, but since most of my friends had never been to London I sat through it again and I mean London is always great - especially when the sun is shining. Sadly it was really cold even though the sun was shining and so we only took one tour and only hopped off at the Tower Bridge and at Buckingham Palace.

Also ich warne euch: Dieser Post wird ziemlich lang (und das ist erst Tag 1), aber ich liebe es Reise Posts auf anderen Blogs zu lesen und ich erzähle euch auch gerne, was ich für Erfahrungen gemacht hab und welche Tipps ich euch jetzt nach dem Trip geben kann.
Nachdem wir sicher in London angekommen sind (wir sind mit Lufthansa geflogen), haben wir unser Gepäck in die Apartments gebracht und sind in die Stadt gefahren. Dort haben wir dann ein etwas verfrühtes Mittagessen bei McDonalds gegessen  (es war glaub ich 11 Uhr :D) und haben dann eine Hop-On-Hop-Off Original Tour gemacht, um uns einen ersten Eindruck von London zu verschaffen. Es war zwar bereits meine dritte Hop-on-Hop-Off Tour durch London, aber da die meisten meiner Freunde noch nie in London waren, hab ich die halt nochmal mitgemacht - ich mein London ist schließlich immer wunderschön, besonders wenn die Sonne scheint. Leider war es trotz Sonnenscheins sehr kalt und deswegen haben wir dann nur eine Tour mitgemacht und sind nur bei der Tower Bridge und beim Buckingham Palace ausgestiegen.

We didn't have time to go to a restaurant to have dinner, so we just went home, changed and had some pasta that the boys made for us while we girls were getting ready. 'Cause we still had one big plan left for that night... Wicked! It was actually already my second time in Wicked, even actually the second time in London, but I just love that musical so much that I totally wanted to see it again (I mean look at the stage, it's already the best)!. So it was actually just us girls - Lucy, Summer and I - but we had a total blast even though we didn't get the drinks we wanted (cosmopolitans) because we were not 21 yet and for whatever reason the legal drinking age in England is somewhere between 18 und 25 depending on the store/bar you go to.

Wir hatten leider keine Zeit um in ein Restaurant essen zu gehen, also sind wir zurück ins Apartment und haben uns umgezogen während die Jungs für uns Pasta gekocht haben. Denn wir hatten an dem Tag noch etwas Wichtiges vor... Wicked! Ich war zum zweiten Mal schon in Wicked, sogar schon mein zweites Mal in London, aber ich liebe das Musical einfach so sehr, dass ich es mir unbedingt nochmal anschauen wollte (schaut euch die Bühne an - ich mein das sagt schon alles!). Ins Musical sind nur wir Mädels gegangen - Lucy, Summer und ich - aber es war so toll - auch wenn wir die Drinks, die wir haben wollten (Cosmopolitans) nicht gekriegt haben, weil keiner von uns 21 war und man Alkohol in England irgendwo zwischen 18 und 25 (je nach Geschäft/Bar) kaufen darf. 

After the musical we went back to our apartment, just to find that half of the boys were already asleep, and so we also decided to go straight to bed. The first two pictures show the living rooms of the two apartments we had (they actually looked a lot better than on the pictures) and the last picture shows my bed. Each apartment was for four people, so since there was eight of us those apartments were perfect!
So that was how our first day ended. If you want to here about the rest of the trip, stay tuned, I'll blog about those in the next couple of days. But now I still have some advice for those of you who are planning to visit London someday, too:

Nach dem Musical sind wir zurück ins Apartment, wo die Hälfte der Jungs schon am schlafen war. Daraufhin sind wir dann natürlich auch ins Bett gegangen. Die ersten beiden Bilder zeigen die Wohnzimmer von den zwei Apartments (in Wirklichkeit sehen die noch besser aus) und das letzte Bild zeigt mein Bett. In jedem Apartment konnten vier Leute schlafen und da wir acht Leute waren hat das perfekt gepasst. 
So ist der erste Tag dann zu Ende gegangen. Falls ihr erfahren wollt, was wir die nächsten drei Tage so getrieben haben, dann kommt in den nächsten Tagen nochmal auf meinem Blog vorbei. Aber jetzt kriegt ihr noch ein paar Tipps von mir für euren nächsten London Urlaub:

My London Tipps

#1 E2 Apartments:
Great Price (we payed 33€ night/person), nice staff, clean (apart from some lamps that they forgot to dust), perfect size for a city trip and only a 10 minute walk from the tube station Bethnal Green.
 
Toller Preis (wir haben 33€ nacht/person gezahlt), nette Angestelle, sauber (bis auf ein paar Lampen, die beim Abstauben vergessen wurden), perfekte Größe für einen Städteurlaub und nur 10 Minuten von der U-Bahn Haltestelle Bethnal Green entfernt


#2 Money:
Don't exchange money at the airport! Try to do it in the smaller districts of London (Paddington, Notting Hill,...)

Tauscht euer Geld definitiv nicht am Flughafen! Am besten tauscht ihr es in den kleineren Bezirken von London (Paddington, Notting Hill,...)


#3 Travel Card:
Try to buy an off-peak travel card (7,30£ for zones 1&2). You can use it all day from 9:30 a.m. until the last tube leaves and on the weekends even all day. Everyone always recommends the Oyster Card, but I don't really understand why. There's no way that's cheaper than the off-peak travel card unless you only plan to take the tube like once or maybe twice a day.

Versucht eine off-peak travel card (7,30£ für Zonen 1&2) zu kaufen. Man kann sie ab 9:30 Uhr bis zur letzten U-Bahn, die an dem Tag fährt, und am Wochenende sogar den ganzen Tag benutzen. Also empfehlen immer die Oyster Card, aber ich versteh nicht so wirklich warum. Die lohnt sich definitiv nur wenn man nur ein oder zweimal am Tag mit der U-Bahn fährt.

#4 Musical:
If you're in London, watch a musical! If Wicked is not your thing (believe me that's not possible), then I can also recommend Les Miserables. Both are absolutly amazing!

Wenn man schon in London ist, dann muss man sich auch ein Musical anschauen! Falls Wicked nicht euer Ding sein sollte (glaubt mir das ist eigentlich nicht möglich), dann kann ich Les Miserables als Alternative empfehlen! Beide sind wahnsinnig gut!

[Movie] Do you hear the people sing?

Sadly Germany is usually a little late when it comes to movies and so I had to wait for over two months to finally see this movie...

Leider ist Deutschland ja häufig ein bisschen spät dran was Filme betrifft, deswegen musste ich jetzt auch über zwei Monate auf diesen Film warten...

Les Miserables

Wow now that was a good movie - nope my best friend wasn't serious when she said that, which no one else could understand, because it was actually really good! I had already seen the musical in London two years ago, but - for whatever reason - I didn't really get it at that time. But now the movie answered all of the questions I had and it just finally made sense.

Yes, Annie deserved her Oscar! I know a lot of people are hating her right now for her dress choice at and her acceptance speech at the Oscars, but seriously?! Get over it! She was truly remarkable in this movie, proved that she's a great singer and an amazing actress and therefore she deserved it. I also believe that Hugh would have deserved an Oscar, but I haven't seen Lincoln yet so I can't tell whether Daniel Day-Lewis deserved it even more. Also, I was really surprised by Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. I didn't know they could sing and I really wasn't sure how Sacha and Helena would fit into this movie - that was probably because I couldn't remember the Thénardiers from the musical. But the casting was brilliant and I am really glad Samantha Barks played Eponine and not Taylor Swift, who was first announced as Eponine. I love Taylor as a country/pop singer, but she's just not an actress and her voice is definitily not strong enough to play Eponine.

What else can I say? The music is obviously epic, but I already knew that from the musical and the story is a lot easier to understand than it was when I saw it live. I walked out of the theatre and couldn't stop singing Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men... and I believe that is the best sign that a musical was great.

Na der Film war ja toll - nope meine beste Freundin hat das nicht ernst gemeint, was keiner so genau verstehen konnte, denn der Film war wirklich toll. Ich hatte das Musical bereits vor zwei Jahren in London gesehen, aber hatte es damals - warum auch immer - nicht verstanden. Glücklicherweise hat der Film meine offenen Fragen nun endlich beantwortet und alles ergibt plötzlich einen Sinn.

Annie hat ihren Oscar verdient! Ich weiß, dass viele Leute sie gerade wegen ihrere Kleiderwahl und ihrer Dankesrede bei den Oscars hassen, aber das kann ich nicht verstehen! Sie war wirklich unglaublich in dem Film, hat bewiesen, dass sie eine tolle Sängerin und großartige Schauspielerin ist und hat deshalb ihren Oscar auf jeden Fall verdient. Meiner Meinung nach hätte Hugh Jackman ebenfalls einen Oscar verdient, aber ich habe Lincoln noch nicht gesehen, also kann ich nicht beurteilen ob Daniel Day-Lewis ihn noch mehr verdient hat. Ich war auch sehr überrascht von Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen und Helena Bonham Carter. Ich wusste nicht, dass die singen können und hatte zuerst auch bedenken wie Sacha und Helena in den Film passen - das lag wahrscheinlich daran, dass ich mich an die Thénardiers nicht mehr erinnern konnte. Aber die Schauspieler waren wirklich perfekt gecastet und ich bin sehr froh, dass Samantha Barks und nicht Taylor Swift, wie ursprünglich angedacht, Eponine spielt. Ich liebe Taylor als country/popstar wirklich, aber sie ist einfach keine Schauspielerin und auch als Sängerin nicht gut genug um die Eponine zu spielen.

Was kann man dazu noch sagen? Also die Musik ist offensichtlich episch, aber das wusste ich vom Musical schon und die Geschichte lässt sich im Film besser nachvollziehen als live. Ich bin singend aus dem Kino rausgelaufen und ich glaube das ist das beste Zeichen, dass ein Musical-Film gut war.
