[Travel] You could travel the world but nothing comes close to...

... the golden coast!!

...the golden coast!! Yes, Katy Perry is right! I spent this past summer studying at the University of California Los Angeles and therefore got to spend the most amazing seven weeks of my life at this famous golden coast and I fell head over heels in love with it! This is going to be the first part of my little flashback travel guide and if you enjoy reading it, then please let me know in the comments below :)

Flying into LA itself is already worth it. The airport is maybe not the most beautiful or interesting one, but when you drive out of the airport and you are greeted by these huge LA letters, you just know that you've made it.

Santa Monica

After my dad picked me up from the airport (he was there on a business trip anyways), we drove directly to Santa Monica, which had been one of my favorite places in LA for a while. That also explains my very casual clothes (yeah I know the "Los York" shirt is just perfect, cause I spent the first week in York, PA, where I grew up and then the following 6 1/2 weeks in Los Angeles :D ). The restaurant that you see on the second picture on the left side, was the first place I had dinner at during my stay. However, you do have to pay for the amazing view, so the restaurant was one of the most expensive ones I had dinner at - but also one of the best. Santa Monice itself is - as I have mentioned - one of my favorite places in LA. The pier is great and if you're lucky enough to be there during the summer months, you might have the chance to catch one of the free "twilight concerts" on the pier. If you wanna go shopping at all the typical "American" stores (Forever 21, Victoria's Secret, etc) - and you should at least check them out during your stay in the states - Santa Monica is also a great place since the 3rd street offers all of these and more. However, I did prefer shopping at smaller boutiques on e.g. Melrose Avenue but I will write about those stores again later on.

UCLA campus

As I have already mentioned I was in LA because I got the chance to take part in one of the summer sessions at the UCLA (if you wanna know more about this, please let me know). The campus itself is a main attraction in Los Angeles. It takes you about 45 minutes to walk from one end to the other and it is not only incredibly big but also incredibly beautiful. There is not a single German college campus that can keep up with this one - not even close. Another highlight on the campus itself is that the soccer team of Real Madrid has a training camp on the soccer field of the UCLA each summer. It usually takes place at the end of July/beginning of August. Since I arrived in LA at the beginning of August, I got the chance to see all the stars (well not all of them - Ronaldo and Khedira didn't show up) there and since I'm a huge soccer fan, it was one of my highlights.

LACMA

During my first week I also went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) with the other German girls, but since I'm not really a fan of paintings and sculptures, art museums are just never really my thing. It was free though, since we were UCLA students and I therefore didn't have to spend any money on it and got to see the famous lanterns that are in front of the museum. Another place that I already visited during my first week was In-N-Out Burger, which is my favorite fast food restaurant in California.

The Grove

This is actually one of my favorite memories of the past summer: I got to meet Chris Colfer at the Grove where he was signing his new novel :) In case you're wondering who Chris Colfer is: just google Glee - my favorite TV show of all times. I actually went to the Grove with the other girls the day before Chris was there and already ran into Bella Thorne (disney channel star) and Jade from the British girl group Little Mix in the bathroom, but then I saw the sign saying that Chris Colfer was gonna be there the next day so I decided to go again. The Grove is a place that you definitily have to visit anyways, cause it's great for shopping or just walking around the Farmer's Market and if you wanna see celebrities in LA this is always a place where a lot of events take place. We actually ran into Bella Thorne and Jade in the bathroom at the Italian restaurant right across from the movie theatre and it turns out that the celebrity check-in is usually in that restaurant when special events are taking place. So if you're willing to spend a little bit of money, then have lunch there and use the bathroom quite often cause you never know who you'll meet there ;)

So that's what happened during my first few days in LA. If you wanna know more about how my summer went on, please let me know ;)

LA Tipps:

#1 The Lobster

Great restaurant at the Santa Monica Pier with an amazing view on the Pacific Ocean and the pier - however a bit expensive

#2 Twilight Concerts

Free concerts on the Santa Monica Pier. The audience gets to sit on the beach and listen and enjoy a lovely evening in Santa Monica. The concerts usually take place from july to september: http://santamonicapier.org/twilightconcerts/

#3 Real Madrid

The Real Madrid training camp takes place on the UCLA campus once a year (end of Juli/beg of August). The training session usually ends at about 4pm and after that you have the chance to get autographs and photos with the stars. It is impossible to overlook this event since the real fans usually sit there all day.

#4 UCLA

Even if you're not a college student, you should defintily visit the campus. You might recognize some parts of the campus from TV shows or movie e.g. 90210.

#5 In-N-Out Burger
Mein liebstes Fast Food Restaurant in California! Meine Bestellung: (2) Cheeseburger + Pink Lemonade

My favorite fast food restaurant in California! My order: (2) cheeseburgers + pink lemonade

#6 The Grove
Shopping, Kino, Restaurants... hier findet man absolut alles, was das Herz so begehrt.

Shopping, movie theatre, restaurants... there's really nothing that you can't find here. In addition, there are special events almost every day often with celebrity guests especially at Barnes & Nobles. The official calender can be found here:  http://www.thegrovela.com/calendar.php

[TV Fashion] So if the chain is on your door I understand

I have to give it to Larissa for being able to pull off a pink and orange outfit with purple eyeshadow... and omg look at that ring! // Little Miss Carrie Bradshaw had much better taste in the 80s than later when Mr Big showed up... I am in love with this dress :)

Neither Hart of Dixie nor Pretty Little Liars were very interesting this week - of course only fashion-wise - but Zoe's first outfit was kinda cute // Out of all of the liars Hanna was the only one whose outfit I loved this week... that dress is simply beautiful

Victoria sure knows how to dress age-appropriate and at the same time flawless // Since Emily is currently running around in more bathrobes than dresses, her little sister had to take over and stunned me with this incredibly cute dress and that amazing clutch that I need like right now! // Margaux's style is very simple but what could go wrong in a red dress?!

What shows are you currently watching and who are your fashion TV idols?

[OOTD] Little darling it's been a long cold lonely winter

Cardigan: Vintage Dressing //  Top: H&M // Pants: Angl // Necklace: Present // Bag: DKNY // Shoes: Deichmann

In my last post I showed you the statement necklace that my sister and her boyfriend got for me and I was then asked if I could show how I wear statement necklaces. This outfit is a very basic everday look that really lets the necklace shine and that I would usually wear to college or on a very casual afternoon with friends. However, I love dressing everything up a little more usually, so more looks featuring this (and other) statement necklaces will follow soon, so stay tuned ;)

Since the sun made the necklace look a little awkward, I decided to show you a close-up of the necklace again ;)

[Haul] Written on these walls are the colors that I can't change

I am in love! This necklace is just so incredibly gorgeous, I'm still a little overwhelmed... Especially since I didn't just buy it myself, but my sister got it for me. She spent a few days in Vienna with her boyfriend and had already "warned" me that she was gonna bring me a small present, but I wasn't expecting something like this. I usually buy really stupid things for the people at home when I go on a trip (well actually I usually forget to buy anything at all), but my sister just really knows what I like and decided to surprise me with this. Don't you think it's just absolutely stunning?!

Also new in are these two books by my favorite authors in the entire world. I'm hoping they'll get me to actually start reading again soon. Have you read them yet or what are your favorite books?

[OOTD] Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun

Dress: Stella Morgan // Bag: DKNY // Tights: No Name // Shoes: Prada // Belt: Orsay // Coat: Jane Norman

Since the winter doesn't really seem to want to come to Germany this year, I at least don't have to worry about wearing big coats and wool sweaters. I'm therefore currently obsessed with this cute dress by Stella Morgan and can actually already wear it even though it's still January. How is the weather in your country at the moment and how are you coping with it fashionwise?

P.S. As you may or may not have noticed, all of the titles of my posts are always song lyrics and this week the song is by the wonderfully talented Lea Michele and is called "Battlefield". I am absolutely obsessed with the song at the moment and it's therefore my hit of the week :)

[2013] But the seas between us broad have roared from auld lang syne

2013 was the best year of my life! I don't think I've ever been as happy and felt as fulfilled as I have during this past year. Since the year is now over I'd like to share some of my favorite memories with you guys...

I visited my favorite city in the world again in 2013 und since my 7 best friends went there with me, the trip in March was the best so far ;)

Hamburg was never really a city that I actually liked until I visited it again in April... I'm a big fan ever since ;)

In May I got to see Pink live in Hannover with my best friend. It was the best concert I've been to so far and I would definitly recommend anyone to go and see her live :)

In June there was a charity soccer game hosted by Dirk Nowitzki and Manuel Neuer in my (and Nowitzki's) home town Würzburg and I got the chance to go there :)

In July I finally got to perform with my favorite ladies again :)

And then came the highlight of my year (possibly even of my life): my summer session at the UCLA. I left Germany on July 29th and if I tried to tell you about everything I experienced in those following 7 weeks, we'd all still be stuck here the day after tomorrow ;) But I can defintily say that it was the summer of my life and that I learned so much about myself that I'm just really glad that I did it!

After I arrived back in Germany, I hopped right onto the next plane bringing me to the wonderful Fuerteventura with all of my best friends. The perfect way to end such an amazing summer!

I then spent the last three months of the year working, studying, dancing and partying ;) The pictures of the most amazing new years eve party of all times will follow soon ;) Sadly, even the most perfect year can never be entirely perfect... So I had to say goodbye to the love of my life my little princess Marina :( She died at the age of 15 1/2 on christmas....

RIP my little angel ♥
